Any staff member may be the first to find a collapsed patient, so knowing how to raise a code blue is universal. Clinical responders need role clarity within the team, and ward staff must keep crash carts checked and ready. NABH's access and continuity standards expect documented emergency drills across the hospital.

Frequently asked questions
What is a code blue?
Code blue is the standard hospital alert for a cardiopulmonary arrest or similar life-threatening emergency, summoning the resuscitation team to the location. Hospitals use a range of colour codes for other emergencies such as fire and infant abduction.
Why do crash carts have to be sealed and checked?
A tamper-evident seal and a regular checklist confirm that the cart is complete, in date and untouched since the last check, so that no one discovers a missing drug or a flat defibrillator during an actual arrest.
