Indications and dose
**Benign prostatic hyperplasia**
- **Adult** (By Mouth Using Modified-Release Medicines): 400 micrograms once daily.
**Dysfunctional voiding (administered on expert advice) for tamsulosin hydrochloride**
- **Child 12-17 years** (By mouth using modified-release medicines): 400 micrograms once daily.
Cautions
Care with initial dose (postural hypotension); cataract surgery (risk of intra-operative floppy iris syndrome); concomitant antihypertensives (reduced dosage and specialist supervision may be required); elderly Cautions, further information Elderly For alpha 1 -selective adrenoceptor blockers, Screening Tool of Older Persons' potentially inappropriate Prescriptions (STOPP) criteria to aid medication reviews (see Prescribing in the elderly for information). Potentially inappropriate: in those with symptomatic postural hypotension or micturition syncope (risk of precipitating recurrent syncope) in those with persistent postural hypotension i.e. recurrent drop in systolic blood pressure 20 mmHg (risk of syncope and falls).

History of micturition syncope; history of postural hypotension
Side effects
Common or very common Dizziness; sexual dysfunction Uncommon Asthenia; constipation; diarrhoea; headache; nausea; palpitations; postural hypotension; rhinitis; skin reactions; vomiting Rare or very rare Angioedema; Stevens-Johnson syndrome; syncope Frequency not known Dry mouth; epistaxis; vision disorders
Interactions
**Other interactions (22):**
- Dutasteride For information on the decrease of serum PSA levels during treatment with dutasteride and guidance concerning prostate cancer detection, please see section 4.4.

- Long-term combination of dutasteride with drugs that are potent inhibitors of the enzyme CYP3A4 (e.g.
- Further inhibition of 5-alpha reductase at increased dutasteride exposure, is not likely.
- However, a reduction of the dutasteride dosing frequency can be considered if side effects are noted.
Hepatic impairment
Manufacturer advises avoid in severe impairment.
Renal impairment
