Indications and dose
**Deficiency states**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 20-50 mg 1-3 times a day.
**Isoniazid-induced neuropathy (prophylaxis)**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 10-20 mg daily.
**Isoniazid-induced neuropathy (treatment)**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 50 mg 3 times a day.
**Idiopathic sideroblastic anaemia**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 100-400 mg daily in divided doses.
**Prevention of penicillamine-induced neuropathy in Wilson's disease**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 20 mg daily.
**Premenstrual syndrome**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 50-100 mg daily.
**Isoniazid-induced neuropathy (prophylaxis) for pyridoxine hydrochloride**
- **Neonate** (By mouth): 5 mg daily.
- **Child 1 month-11 years** (By mouth): 5-10 mg daily.
- **Child 12-17 years** (By mouth): 10 mg daily.
**Isoniazid-induced neuropathy (treatment) for pyridoxine hydrochloride**
- **Neonate** (By mouth): 5-10 mg daily.
- **Child 1 month-11 years** (By mouth): 10-20 mg 2-3 times a day.
- **Child 12-17 years** (By mouth): 30-50 mg 2-3 times a day.
**Prevention of penicillamine-induced neuropathy in Wilson's disease for pyridoxine hydrochloride**
- **Child 1-11 years** (By mouth): 5-10 mg daily.
- **Child 12-17 years** (By mouth): 10 mg daily.
**Metabolic diseases, Cystathioninuria, Homocystinuria for pyridoxine hydrochloride**
- **Neonate** (By mouth): 50-100 mg 1-2 times a day.
- **Child** (By mouth): 50-250 mg 1-2 times a day.
**Pyridoxine-dependent seizures for pyridoxine hydrochloride**
- **Neonate** (Initially by intravenous injection): Test dose 50-100 mg, repeated if necessary, if responsive, followed by an oral maintenance dose; (by mouth) maintenance 50-100 mg once daily, dose to be adjusted as necessary.
- **Child 1 month-11 years** (Initially by intravenous injection): Test dose 50-100 mg daily, if responsive, followed by an oral maintenance dose, (by mouth) maintenance 20-50 mg 1-2 times a day, dose to be adjusted as necessary, (by mouth) increased if necessary up to 30 mg/kg daily, alternatively (by mouth) increased if necessary up to 1 g daily.
Side effects

Interactions

- Drugs that decrease vitamin levels include: Drugs interfering with vitamin D metabolism, including antiepileptics (e.g.
- High levels of folic acid may lead to increased cytotoxicity of fluoropyrimidine based chemotherapies.
- For specific precautions, refer to deferoxamine product information.
- Therefore, during treatment with anticoagulants of that type, careful monitoring of the blood coagulation factors (prothrombin time (PT)/ International Normalized Ratio (INR) should be more frequent.
