Drug action
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Formulated as a bowel cleansing preparation
Indications and dose
**Bowel evacuation on day before radiological examination, endoscopy, or surgery**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 1 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 1 sachet after 6-8 hours.
**Bowel evacuation on day before radiological procedure, endoscopy, or surgery**
- **Child** (By Mouth): 9-17 years 1 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 1 sachet after 6-8 hours.
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 1 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 1 sachet after 6-8 hours.
**Bowel evacuation on day before radiological procedure, endoscopy, or surgery for Picolax sachets**
- **Child 1 year** (By mouth): 0.25 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 0.25 sachet after 6-8 hours.
- **Child 2-3 years** (By mouth): 0.5 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 0.5 sachet after 6-8 hours.
- **Child 4-8 years** (By mouth): 1 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 0.5 sachet after 6-8 hours.
- **Child 9-17 years** (By mouth): 1 sachet taken before 8 a.m, then 1 sachet after 6-8 hours.
Cautions
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Cardiac disease; children; colitis; debilitated patients; elderly (in adults); fluid and electrolyte disturbances (avoid in severe dehydration or hypermagnesaemia); hypovolaemia (should be corrected before administration); recent gastro-intestinal surgery
Contraindications
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Acute severe colitis; ascites; congestive cardiac failure; gastric retention; gastro-intestinal obstruction; gastro-intestinal perforation; gastro-intestinal ulceration; toxic megacolon
Side effects
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Common or very common Gastrointestinal discomfort; headache; nausea Uncommon Confusion; electrolyte imbalance; gastrointestinal disorders; seizures; skin reactions; vomiting
Pregnancy
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Caution.
Breast feeding
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Caution.
Hepatic impairment
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Avoid in hepatic coma if risk of renal failure.
Renal impairment
For magnesium citrate with sodium picosulfate Caution in mild to moderate impairment; avoid in severe impairment (risk of hypermagnesaemia). M
