Indications and dose
**Chronic constipation**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 2 sachets once daily usually for up to 2 weeks, dose to be taken preferably in the morning.
Contraindications
Ileus; intestinal obstruction; intestinal perforation; risk of intestinal perforation; severe inflammatory bowel disease; toxic megacolon
Side effects
Common or very common Flatulence; gastrointestinal discomfort; nausea; vomiting Uncommon Anaemia; angioedema; appetite disorder; dehydration; dizziness; fatigue; hiccups; hypertension; hypoglycaemia; hypothyroidism; increased risk of infection; local swelling; migraine; muscle twitching; neuritis; oedema; pain; pelvic pain; sinus congestion; skin reactions; tachycardia; taste altered
Interactions
**Other interactions (3):**
- Macrogol raises the solubility of medicinal products that are soluble in alcohol and relatively insoluble in water.
- There is a possibility that the absorption of other medicinal products could be transiently reduced during use with Compound Macrogol (see section 4.4).
- Compound Macrogol may result in a potential interactive effect when used with starch-based food thickeners.
Pregnancy
Limited data, but manufacturer advises no effects anticipated as systemic exposure is negligible.
