The nature of physiology questions has shifted significantly. Earlier papers tested isolated facts -- 'what is the normal GFR?' or 'name the hormone secreted by the zona glomerulosa.' Recent papers present a physiological scenario and ask you to predict the outcome: 'a patient at high altitude for 3 weeks develops which compensatory change in oxygen transport?' This shift rewards conceptual understanding and penalises rote memorisation.
Physiology is also the subject where strong preparation pays the highest dividend per hour invested, because the concepts recur across medicine, paediatrics, anaesthesia, and even pharmacology. A student who truly understands the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system does not need to separately memorise ACE inhibitor pharmacology -- the drug mechanism follows logically from the physiology.

This order reflects exam weightage and builds concepts sequentially -- renal physiology makes more sense after you understand cardiovascular haemodynamics.
Draw diagrams constantly. The cardiac cycle, the nephron with its transport mechanisms, the Hb-O2 dissociation curve, and the hypothalamic-pituitary axes should be diagrams you can reproduce from memory. Students who draw these while studying retain the concepts 3-4 times longer than those who only read about them.
