NEET-PG FAQ
How many attempts are allowed for NEET-PG?
There is currently no limit on the number of attempts for NEET-PG. NBEMS and the National Medical Commission have not capped how many times a candidate may sit the exam, so aspirants can appear repeatedly to improve their score and rank. What matters is that you satisfy the eligibility conditions afresh each year: a valid MBBS degree or provisional pass certificate recognised by the NMC, completion of the one-year compulsory rotatory internship by the cut-off date for that cycle, 30 September 2026 for the 2026 exam, and valid NMC or State Medical Council registration. There is also no upper age limit, which reinforces the open-attempt position. Proposals to introduce an attempt cap have been discussed in the past, so confirm the current rule in the NBEMS Information Bulletin for your cycle rather than assume it is permanent. One counselling-side restriction exists: a candidate allotted a seat in the final stray vacancy round who fails to join can be barred from the next year's exam.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any limit on NEET-PG attempts?
No current limit. Candidates can appear as many times as they wish, provided they meet the eligibility conditions each year.
Could an attempt limit be introduced?
It has been discussed in the past but is not in force. Always check the current NBEMS Information Bulletin, since rules can change between cycles.
Does repeating NEET-PG affect eligibility?
No, as long as your MBBS qualification, internship completion and medical registration remain valid for the year you apply.
Is there an age limit that restricts attempts?
No. There is no upper age limit for NEET-PG, so age does not restrict how many times you can appear.
Can I be barred from a future attempt?
Yes, in one situation: if you are allotted a seat in the final stray vacancy counselling round and do not join, you can be barred from the next year's exam.
