NEET-PG FAQ
What is the NEET-PG marking scheme?
The NEET-PG marking scheme awards 4 marks for every correct answer, deducts 1 mark for every incorrect answer, and gives 0 for questions left unanswered. With 180 multiple-choice questions on the NEET-PG 2026 paper, the maximum possible score is 720 marks. The exam is computer-based, runs for 3 hours 30 minutes, and is split into five time-bound sections, Group A to E, each carrying 36 questions with 42 minutes on the clock. Once a section closes you cannot go back, so decisions about attempting doubtful questions have to be made within each block. The marking scheme itself did not change in 2026; NBEMS cut the question count from 200 to 180, which lowered the maximum score from 800 to 720. Because ranking works on percentiles of the raw score, a handful of avoided negative marks can move you past thousands of candidates in the crowded middle band.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does NEET-PG have negative marking?
Yes. Every incorrect answer costs 1 mark, which is 25% of the 4 marks a correct answer earns. Questions you leave blank score 0, so a blind guess is only worth it when you can eliminate at least one or two options first.
How many questions are there in NEET-PG 2026?
180 multiple-choice questions, down from 200 in earlier cycles. NBEMS announced the reduction in its 2026 Information Bulletin. The questions are distributed across five sections, Group A to E, with 36 questions in each.
What is the NEET-PG 2026 exam pattern?
A computer-based test in English, held in a single shift on 30 August 2026. The paper has 180 MCQs across the MBBS subjects, arranged in five time-bound sections of 36 questions each. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer loses 1, for a maximum of 720.
How long is the NEET-PG exam?
3 hours 30 minutes in total, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. With 180 questions in 210 minutes, you get an average of 70 seconds per question, slightly more breathing room than the old 200-question paper allowed.
Is there sectional timing in NEET-PG?
Yes. Each of the five sections (Group A to E) is allotted exactly 42 minutes. You cannot move to the next section early, and once a section's time ends you cannot return to review or change those answers.
What are the total marks in NEET-PG 2026?
720 marks: 180 questions at 4 marks each. The maximum used to be 800 when the paper had 200 questions; the 2026 question-count reduction lowered it. Percentile ranks are calculated from these raw scores.
