Mnemonics and expansions
- **SITS:** Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor, Subscapularis. Recalls the four rotator cuff muscles that stabilise the glenohumeral joint.
- **NAVAL:** Nerves, Axillary Artery, Axillary Vein, Axillary lymph nodes, Loose connective tissue. Lists the contents packed within the axilla.
- **Randy Travis Drinks Cold Beer:** Roots, Trunks, Divisions, Cords, Branches. Gives the sequence of components in the brachial plexus from proximal to distal.
- **Six Tiny Ladies Sip A Pot:** Superior thoracic, Thoracoacromial, Lateral thoracic, Subscapular, Anterior circumflex humeral, Posterior circumflex humeral. Covers the branches of the axillary artery in order.
- **SCALP:** Skin, Connective tissue, Aponeurosis, Loose areolar tissue, Pericranium. Names the five layers of the scalp from superficial to deep.
- **PROVe:** Pulmonary stenosis, Right ventricular hypertrophy, Overriding aorta, Ventricular septal defect. Recalls the four components of Tetralogy of Fallot.
- **Beck's 3 D's:** Distant heart sounds, Distended neck veins, Decreased arterial pressure. Flags the triad of cardiac tamponade.
- **Todaro Saves Coins:** Tendon of Todaro, Septal leaflet of tricuspid valve, Coronary sinus orifice. Marks the boundaries of the triangle of Koch, which locates the AV node.
- **Some Animals Bring Big Presents:** SA node, Atrial myocardium, AV node, Bundle of His, Bundle branches, Purkinje fibres. Traces the cardiac conduction pathway in order.
- **Standing Room Only:** Superior orbital fissure (V1), foramen Rotundum (V2), foramen Ovale (V3). Maps each trigeminal division to the skull foramen it exits through.
- **Lazy French Nurses Take Over All Offices:** Lacrimal, Frontal, Nasociliary, Trochlear, Oculomotor, Abducens, Ophthalmic vein. Lists the structures passing through the superior orbital fissure.
- **Frustrated Students Take Physics:** Frontal, Sphenoid greater wing, Temporal squamous part, Parietal. Names the four bones meeting at the pterion.
