Indications and dose
**Oedema,Potassium conservation with thiazide and loop diuretics**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): Initially 150-250 mg daily for 1 week, lower initial dose when given with other diuretics, then reduced to 150-250 mg daily on alternate days, to be taken in divided doses after breakfast and lunch.
Cautions
Diabetes mellitus; elderly; gout; may cause blue fluorescence of urine
Contraindications
Addison's disease; anuria; hyperkalaemia
Side effects
Common or very common Diarrhoea; hyperkalaemia; nausea; vomiting Uncommon Dry mouth; headache; hyperuricaemia; renal failure (reversible on discontinuation); skin reactions Rare or very rare Megaloblastic anaemia; nephritis tubulointerstitial; pancytopenia; photosensitivity reaction; serum sickness; urolithiasis Frequency not known Asthenia; jaundice; metabolic acidosis; urine discolouration
