Selenium clinical drug profile including indications, dosing, side effects, cautions and interactions.
Indications and dose
**Selenium deficiency**
- **Adult** (By Mouth, Or By Intramuscular Injection, Or By Intravenous Injection): 100-500 micrograms daily.
**Seborrhoeic dermatitis,Dandruff**
- **Child** (To The Skin Using Shampoo): 5-17 years Apply twice weekly for 2 weeks, then apply once weekly for 2 weeks, then apply as required.
- **Adult** (To The Skin Using Shampoo): Apply twice weekly for 2 weeks, then apply once weekly for 2 weeks, then apply as required.
**Pityriasis versicolor**
- **Adult** (To The Skin Using Shampoo): Apply once daily for 7 days, apply to the affected area and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off. The course may be repeated if necessary. Diluting with a small amount of water prior to application can reduce irritation.

Interactions
**Other interactions (1):**
- Folic acid can reduce the plasma concentration of phenytoin.
