Drug action
Odevixibat is an inhibitor of the ileal bile acid transporter that acts locally in the ileum to reduce re-uptake of bile acids from the intestines into the liver, thereby preventing their accumulation and resultant damage to liver tissue.
Indications and dose
**Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (under expert supervision)**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 40 micrograms/kg once daily (max. per dose 2.4 mg), to be taken in the morning, increased if necessary up to 120 micrograms/kg once daily (max. per dose 7.2 mg), to be taken in the morning, dose to be increased if adequate clinical response not achieved after 3 months at initial dose. Consider alternative treatment if no benefit after 6 months.

Cautions
Impaired gastrointestinal motility or enterohepatic circulation (potential for reduced efficacy)
Side effects
Common or very common Diarrhoea; diarrhoea haemorrhagic; faeces soft; gastrointestinal discomfort; hepatomegaly
Pregnancy
Avoid-reproductive toxicity in animal studies. M
