Drug action
Nirsevimab is a recombinant human long-acting monoclonal antibody that binds to the prefusion conformation of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) F protein, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells and preventing RSV infection.
Indications and dose
**Immunisation of very and extremely preterm neonates (less than 32 weeks gestational age) against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for first RSV season (under expert supervision) for nirsevimab**
- **Neonate** (By intramuscular injection): 50 mg for 1 dose, to be given immediately before, or during, first RSV season.
**Seasonal immunisation of high-risk children against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (under expert supervision) for nirsevimab**
- **Neonate (body-weight up to 5 kg)** (By intramuscular injection): 50 mg for 1 dose, to be given immediately before, or during, RSV season.
- **Neonate (body-weight 5 kg and above)** (By intramuscular injection): 100 mg for 1 dose, to be given immediately before, or during, RSV season.
- **Child 1-23 months (body-weight up to 5 kg)** (By intramuscular injection): 50 mg for 1 dose, to be given immediately before, or during, RSV season.
- **Child 1-23 months (body-weight 5 kg and above)** (By intramuscular injection): 100 mg for 1 dose, to be given immediately before, or during, RSV season.
Interactions
**Other interactions (4):**
- Nirsevimab does not interfere with reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or rapid antigen detection RSV diagnostic assays that employ commercially available antibodies targeting...
- In clinical trials, when nirsevimab was given with routine childhood vaccines, the safety and reactogenicity profile of the coadministered regimen was similar to the childhood vaccines given alone.
- Nirsevimab can be given concomitantly with childhood vaccines.
- Nirsevimab should not be mixed with any vaccine in the same syringe or vial (see section 6.2).
