Indications and dose
**Adjunct in gastro-intestinal disorders characterised by smooth muscle spasm**
- **Child** (By Mouth Using Immediate-Release Medicines): 10-17 years 135-150 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
- **Adult** (By Mouth Using Immediate-Release Medicines): 135-150 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
**Irritable bowel syndrome**
- **Child** (By Mouth Using Modified-Release Medicines): 12-17 years 200 mg twice daily.
- **Adult** (By Mouth Using Modified-Release Medicines): 200 mg twice daily.
**Adjunct in gastro-intestinal disorders characterised by smooth muscle spasm for mebeverine hydrochloride**
- **Child 3 years** (By mouth using immediate-release medicines): 25 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
- **Child 4-7 years** (By mouth using immediate-release medicines): 50 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
- **Child 8-9 years** (By mouth using immediate-release medicines): 100 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
- **Child 10-17 years** (By mouth using immediate-release medicines): 135-150 mg 3 times a day, dose preferably taken 20 minutes before meals.
**Irritable bowel syndrome for mebeverine hydrochloride**
- **Child 12-17 years** (By mouth using modified-release medicines): 200 mg twice daily.

Paralytic ileus
Side effects
Frequency not known Angioedema; face oedema; skin reactions
Interactions
**Other interactions (2):**
- No interaction studies have been performed, except with alcohol.
- In vitro and in vivo studies in animals have demonstrated the absence of any interaction between mebeverine hydrochloride and ethanol.
Pregnancy
Not known to be harmful-manufacturers advise avoid.
Breast feeding
