Indications and dose
**Post-exposure prophylaxis against hepatitis B infection**
- **Adult** (By Intramuscular Injection): 500 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure; ideally within 24-48 hours, but no later than 7 days after exposure.
**Post-exposure prophylaxis against hepatitis B infection [after exposure to hepatitis B virus-contaminated material]**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): Dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure, but no later than 72 hours (consult product literature).
**Prevention of hepatitis B in haemodialysed patients**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): (consult product literature).
**Prophylaxis against re-infection of transplanted liver**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): (consult product literature).
**Prevention of hepatitis B re-infection more than 6 months after liver transplantation in stable HBV-DNA negative patients**
- **Adult** (By Subcutaneous Injection): (body-weight 75 kg and above) 1000 units once weekly, dose to be started 2-3 weeks after last dose of intravenous hepatitis B immunoglobulin.
**Post-exposure prophylaxis against hepatitis B infection for hepatitis B immunoglobulin**
- **Neonate** (By intramuscular injection): 250 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure; ideally within 24-48 hours, but no later than 7 days after exposure.
- **Child 1 month-4 years** (By intramuscular injection): 250 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure; ideally within 24-48 hours, but no later than 7 days after exposure.
- **Child 5-9 years** (By intramuscular injection): 300 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure; ideally within 24-48 hours, but no later than 7 days after exposure.
- **Child 10-17 years** (By intramuscular injection): 500 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure; ideally within 24-48 hours, but no later than 7 days after exposure.
**Prevention of transmitted infection at birth for hepatitis B immunoglobulin**
- **Neonate** (By intramuscular injection): 250 units for 1 dose, dose to be administered as soon as possible after birth.
- **Neonate** (By intravenous infusion): (consult product literature).
**Post-exposure prophylaxis against hepatitis B infection [after exposure to hepatitis B virus-contaminated material] for hepatitis B immunoglobulin**
- **Child** (By intravenous infusion): Dose to be administered as soon as possible after exposure, but no later than 72 hours (consult product literature).

Cautions
B immunoglobulin IgA deficiency; interference with live virus vaccines
Side effects
B immunoglobulin Uncommon Abdominal pain upper; headache Rare or very rare Cardiac discomfort; fatigue; hypersensitivity; hypertension; hypotension; muscle spasms; nasopharyngitis; oropharyngeal pain; palpitations; skin reactions
