Indications and dose
**Advanced prostate cancer,Metastatic prostate cancer refractory to gonadorelin analogue therapy (monotherapy)**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 250 mg 3 times a day.
Cautions
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption; avoid in Acute porphyrias ; cardiac disease (oedema reported); diabetes (decreased tolerance to glucose)
Contraindications
Do not initiate if serum transaminases greater than 2-3 times the upper limit of normal
Side effects
Common or very common Appetite abnormal; asthenia; breast abnormalities; diarrhoea; drowsiness; galactorrhoea; gynaecomastia; hepatic function abnormal (sometimes fatal); hepatitis (sometimes fatal); insomnia; nausea; vomiting Rare or very rare Alopecia; anxiety; breast neoplasm; cardiovascular disorder; chest pain; constipation; cough; depression; dizziness; dyspnoea; gastrointestinal discomfort; gastrointestinal disorders; hair growth abnormal; headache; herpes zoster; hot flush; hypertension; interstitial pneumonitis; libido decreased; lupus-like syndrome; lymphoedema; malaise; muscle cramps; oedema; photosensitivity reaction; skin reactions; thirst; vision blurred Frequency not known QT interval prolongation
Interactions

- There have been no interactions between flutamide and leuprorelin; nevertheless, in the combined treatment with flutamide and an LHRH agonist, the possible side effects of each medicinal product...
- Increases in prothrombin time have been reported in patients receiving chronic treatment with oral anticoagulants ( e.g.
- Therefore careful monitoring of prothrombin time is recommended and it may be necessary to adjust the dose of anticoagulant if Flutamide is administered concomitantly with oral anticoagulants.
- Given the known potential liver and renal toxicities of the product, it is important to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol.
- Cases of increased theophylline plasma concentrations have been reported in patients receiving concomitant theophylline and flutamide treatment.
- Theophylline is primarily metabolised by CYP 1A2 which is the primary enzyme responsible for the conversion of Flutamide to its active agent 2-hydroflutamide.
