Indications and dose
**Improvement of walking disability in multiple sclerosis (specialist use only)**
- **Adult** (By Mouth): 10 mg every 12 hours, discontinue treatment if no improvement within 2 weeks.
Cautions
Atrioventricular conduction disorders; predisposition to seizures; sinoatrial conduction disorders; symptomatic cardiac rhythm disorders
Contraindications
History of seizures (discontinue treatment if seizures occur)
Side effects
Common or very common Anxiety; asthenia; balance impaired; constipation; dizziness; dyspepsia; dyspnoea; headache; insomnia; laryngeal pain; nausea; pain; palpitations; paraesthesia; tremor; urinary tract infection; vomiting Uncommon Seizure; skin reactions; tachycardia
Interactions
**Other interactions (3):**
- Fampridine is eliminated mainly via the kidneys with active renal secretion accounting for about 60% (see section 5.2).
- OCT2 is the transporter responsible for the active secretion of fampridine.
- Baclofen: fampridine has been administered concomitantly with baclofen and no pharmacokinetic medicinal product interactions were observed.
Pregnancy
Avoid-toxicity in animal studies.
Breast feeding
Avoid-no information available.
Renal impairment
Caution in mild impairment; avoid if creatinine clearance less than 50 mL/minute, M see Prescribing in renal impairment .
