Drug action
Eptinezumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) ligand, inhibiting the function of CGRP at its receptor, and thereby preventing migraine attacks.
Indications and dose
**Prophylaxis of migraine [in patients who have at least 4 migraine days per month] (initiated by a specialist)**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 100 mg every 12 weeks; increased if necessary to 300 mg every 12 weeks, assess need for dose escalation within first 12 weeks; increased dose to be given on the next scheduled date. Review treatment 6 months after initiation.
Side effects
Common or very common Fatigue; hypersensitivity; nasopharyngitis
Interactions
**Other interactions (1):**
- Eptinezumab is not metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Pregnancy
Avoid-limited information available. M
Breast feeding
Avoid during first few days after birth-possible risk from transfer of antibodies to infant. After this time, use during breast-feeding only if clinically needed. M
