Indications and dose
**Prevention and treatment of ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias, including after myocardial infarction,Maintenance of sinus rhythm after cardioversion**
- **Adult** (By Mouth Using Immediate-Release Medicines): 300-800 mg daily in divided doses.
- **Adult** (By Mouth Using Modified-Release Medicines): 250-375 mg every 12 hours.
Cautions
Atrial flutter or atrial tachycardia with partial block; avoid in Acute porphyrias ; elderly; heart failure (avoid if severe); myasthenia gravis; prostatic enlargement; structural heart disease; susceptibility to angle-closure glaucoma
Contraindications
Bundle-branch block associated with first-degree AV block; pre-existing long QT syndrome; second- and third-degree AV block or bifascicular block (unless pacemaker fitted); severe heart failure (unless secondary to arrhythmia); severe sinus node dysfunction
Side effects
Frequency not known Abdominal pain; appetite decreased; arrhythmias; cardiac conduction disorders; cardiogenic shock; cognitive disorder; constipation; diarrhoea; dizziness; dry mouth; erectile dysfunction; headache; heart failure; hyperhidrosis; hypoglycaemia; hypotension; jaundice cholestatic; nausea; neutropenia; psychotic disorder; QT interval prolongation; rash; urinary disorders; vision disorders; vomiting

- Interaction with drugs associated with risk of Torsade de pointes, such as - tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, - all macrolide antibiotics (e.g.
- Concomitant administration of disopyramide with such drugs may potentially enhance this QT prolongation effect and is not recommended.
- The concomitant use of these medications whilst undergoing treatment with disopyramide increases the chance of cardiac arrhythmia.
- There is some evidence that disopyramide is metabolised by hepatic CYP3A.
