Indications and dose
**Cycloplegia**
- **Child** (To The Eye): 12-17 years Apply 1 drop, 30-60 minutes before examination, using 0.5% eye drops.
**Uveitis**
- **Child** (To The Eye): 3 months-17 years Apply 1 drop 2-4 times a day, using 0.5% eye drops (1% for deeply pigmented eyes).
**Anterior uveitis,Cyclopegia**
- **Adult** (To The Eye): (consult product literature).
**Cycloplegia for cyclopentolate hydrochloride**
- **Child 3 months-11 years** (To the eye): Apply 1 drop, 30-60 minutes before examination, using 1% eye drops.
- **Child 12-17 years** (To the eye): Apply 1 drop, 30-60 minutes before examination, using 0.5% eye drops.
**Uveitis for cyclopentolate hydrochloride**
- **Child 3 months-17 years** (To the eye): Apply 1 drop 2-4 times a day, using 0.5% eye drops (1% for deeply pigmented eyes).
Cautions
For all antimuscarinics (eye) Children under 3 months owing to the possible association between cycloplegia and the development of amblyopia; darkly pigmented iris is more resistant to pupillary dilatation and caution should be exercised to avoid overdosage; mydriasis can precipitate acute angle-closure glaucoma (usually in those aged over 60 years and hypermetropic (long-sighted), who are predisposed to the condition because of a shallow anterior chamber) (in adults); mydriasis can precipitate acute angle-closure glaucoma (usually in those who are predisposed to the condition because of a shallow anterior chamber) (in children)
Side effects
For all antimuscarinics (eye) Frequency not known Dizziness; photophobia; skin reactions; tachycardia Side-effects For cyclopentolate hydrochloride Frequency not known Abdominal distension (in children); arrhythmias; behaviour abnormal (in children); cardio-respiratory distress (in children); conjunctivitis (on prolonged administration); constipation; dry mouth; eye oedema (on prolonged administration); flushing; gastrointestinal disorders; hyperaemia (on prolonged administration); mydriasis; palpitations; psychotic disorder (in children); staggering; urinary disorders; vomiting Side-effects, further information Systemic side-effects can occur, particularly in children and the elderly.
Interactions
**Other interactions (2):**
- Since systemic cyclopentolate effects cannot be excluded even with topical application, the anticholinergic effects of other pharmaceuticals with anticholinergic activity could be increased...
- Cyclopentolate may interfere with the ocular anti-hypertensive action of carbachol, pilocarpine, or ophthalmic cholinesterase inhibitors.
