Cephalosporins are antibacterials that attach to penicillin binding proteins to interrupt cell wall biosynthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.
Indications and dose
**Complicated intra-abdominal infection**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 2/0.5 g every 8 hours for 5-14 days.
**Complicated urinary tract infection, including pyelonephritis**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 2/0.5 g every 8 hours for 5-10 days.
**Hospital-acquired pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 2/0.5 g every 8 hours for 7-14 days.
**Infections due to Gram-negative bacteria with limited treatment options**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 2/0.5 g every 8 hours, duration of treatment guided by infection severity, pathogen, and response.
Side effects
Common or very common Abdominal pain; diarrhoea; dizziness; eosinophilia; headache; leucopenia; nausea; neutropenia; pseudomembranous enterocolitis; skin reactions; thrombocytopenia; vomiting Uncommon Anaphylactic reaction; angioedema Rare or very rare Agranulocytosis; haemolytic anaemia; nephritis tubulointerstitial (reversible); severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) Side-effects For ceftazidime with avibactam Common or very common Increased risk of infection; thrombocytosis Uncommon Acute kidney injury; Clostridioides difficile colitis; lymphocytosis; paraesthesia; taste altered Frequency not known Jaundice
Pregnancy

Breast feeding
