Drug action
Cephalosporins are antibacterials that attach to penicillin binding proteins to interrupt cell wall biosynthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.
Indications and dose
**Complicated urinary tract infection [including pyelonephritis],Hospital-acquired pneumonia [including ventilator-associated pneumonia]**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): 2.5 g every 8 hours for 7-10 days; may be continued for up to 14 days, treatment up to 14 days may be required if bacteraemia occurs in association with, or suspected to be associated with these indications.
Cautions
For cefepime with enmetazobactam History of allergic diathesis; history of asthma; supra-normal creatinine clearance Cautions, further information Supra-normal creatinine clearance Prolong duration of infusion to 4 hours if creatinine clearance greater than 150 mL/minute. M
Side effects
Common or very common Abdominal pain; diarrhoea; dizziness; eosinophilia; headache; leucopenia; nausea; neutropenia; pseudomembranous enterocolitis; skin reactions; thrombocytopenia; vomiting Uncommon Anaphylactic reaction; angioedema Rare or very rare Agranulocytosis; haemolytic anaemia; nephritis tubulointerstitial (reversible); severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) Side-effects For cefepime with enmetazobactam Uncommon Clostridioides difficile colitis; colitis; vulvovaginal infection Rare or very rare Constipation; taste altered; vulvovaginal pruritus Frequency not known Hypersensitivity
Pregnancy
For cefepime with enmetazobactam Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk (toxicity in animal studies with enmetazobactam). M
Breast feeding
For cefepime with enmetazobactam Avoid (present in milk in animal studies and limited data suggests present in human milk). M
Renal impairment
For cefepime with enmetazobactam Dose adjustments Reduce dose in moderate to severe impairment-consult product literature. M
