Drug action
Bulevirtide is a sodium-bile acid co-transporter inhibitor which binds to sodium-taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide thereby blocking the entry of hepatitis B virus and hepatitis D virus into hepatocytes.
Indications and dose
**Chronic hepatitis D infection with compensated liver disease (initiated by a specialist)**
- **Adult** (By Subcutaneous Injection): 2 mg every 24 hours, consider discontinuation of treatment if sustained hepatitis B surface antigen seroconversion after 6 months or loss of virological and biochemical response.
Cautions
Co-infection with hepatitis B, hepatitis C or HIV; hepatitis exacerbation upon discontinuation of treatment-monitor liver function and hepatitis B and hepatitis D viral load
Contraindications
Decompensated liver disease
Side effects
Common or very common Arthralgia; dizziness; eosinophilia; fatigue; headache; influenza like illness; nausea; pruritus
Pregnancy
