For birch bark extract Birch bark extract is thought to modulate inflammatory mediators and activate pathways involved in keratinocyte differentiation and migration, thereby promoting wound healing.
Indications and dose
**Partial thickness wounds associated with dystrophic and junctional epidermolysis bullosa**
- **Adult** (To The Skin): Apply to surface of cleansed wound at a thickness of approx. 1 mm and cover with a sterile non-adhesive dressing or apply directly to the dressing-do not rub in, reapply at each wound dressing change.
**Partial thickness wounds associated with dystrophic and junctional epidermolysis bullosa for birch bark extract**
- **Child 6 months-17 years** (To the skin): Apply to surface of cleansed wound at a thickness of approx. 1 mm and cover with a sterile non-adhesive dressing or apply directly to the dressing-do not rub in, reapply at each wound dressing change.
Cautions
For birch bark extract Squamous cell carcinoma or other skin malignancies (discontinue treatment of affected areas); wound infection (interrupt treatment-may be restarted once infection has resolved)
Contraindications
For birch bark extract Avoid application to mucous membranes; avoid contact with eyes
Side effects
For birch bark extract Common or very common Hypersensitivity; skin reactions; wound complications; wound infection Uncommon Pain
Pregnancy
For birch bark extract Not known to be harmful (limited information available but systemic exposure is negligible). M
Breast feeding
