Indications and dose
**Isolated carboxylase defects for biotin**
- **Neonate** (By mouth, or by slow intravenous injection): 5 mg once daily, adjusted according to response, maintenance 10-50 mg daily, higher doses may be required.
- **Child** (By mouth, or by slow intravenous injection): 10 mg once daily, adjusted according to response; maintenance 10-50 mg daily, increased if necessary up to 100 mg daily.
**Defects of biotin metabolism for biotin**
- **Neonate** (By mouth, or by slow intravenous injection): Initially 10 mg once daily, adjusted according to response; maintenance 5-20 mg daily, higher doses may be required.
- **Child** (By mouth, or by slow intravenous injection): Initially 10 mg once daily, adjusted according to response; maintenance 5-20 mg daily, higher doses may be required.
Interactions

- Such interactions include: Agents that can cause pseudotumor cerebri (including certain tetracyclines): Increased risk for pseudotumor cerebri by concomitant administration of Vitamin A Alcohol...
- Decreased formation of the active vitamin D metabolite has been associated with protease inhibitors.
- For specific precautions, refer to deferoxamine product information.
- These include propranolol, prazosin, and numerous others.
- Such interactions include: Amiodarone: Concomitant use of vitamin B6 can enhance amiodarone-induced photosensitivity.
