Indications and dose
**Complicated urinary-tract infection [including pyelonephritis],Complicated intra-abdominal infection**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): Loading dose 2/0.67 g for 1 dose, then maintenance 1.5/0.5 g every 6 hours for 5-10 days in total, maintenance dose to be started 6 hours after initial loading dose.
**Hospital-acquired pneumonia [including ventilator-associated pneumonia]**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): Loading dose 2/0.67 g for 1 dose, then maintenance 1.5/0.5 g every 6 hours for 7-14 days in total, maintenance dose to be started 6 hours after initial loading dose.
**Aerobic Gram-negative infections [in patients with limited treatment options] (administered on expert advice)**
- **Adult** (By Intravenous Infusion): Loading dose 2/0.67 g for 1 dose, then maintenance 1.5/0.5 g every 6 hours, duration should be tailored to site of infection and may continue for up to 14 days in total, maintenance dose to be started 6 hours after initial loading dose.
Side effects
For aztreonam with avibactam Common or very common Abdominal pain; anaemia; confusion; diarrhoea; dizziness; fever; nausea; skin reactions; thrombocytopenia; thrombocytosis; thrombophlebitis; vomiting Uncommon Angioedema; asthenia; chest discomfort; Clostridioides difficile colitis; encephalopathy; extrasystole; flushing; haemorrhage; headache; hyperhidrosis; hypotension; insomnia; leucocytosis; oral disorders; respiratory disorders; taste altered; toxic epidermal necrolysis Rare or very rare Breast tenderness; diplopia; dyspnoea; hepatic disorders; increased risk of infection; malaise; myalgia; nasal complaints; neutropenia; pancytopenia; paraesthesia; pseudomembranous enterocolitis; seizure; tinnitus; vertigo
Pregnancy
For aztreonam with avibactam Avoid unless potential benefit outweighs risk (toxicity in animal studies with avibactam). M
Breast feeding
For aztreonam with avibactam Avoid (presence of avibactam in milk unknown). M
Renal impairment
For aztreonam with avibactam Avoid if creatinine clearance 15 mL/minute or less (consult product literature for information on use in patients on renal replacement therapy). M Dose adjustments See Prescribing in renal impairment . Reduce maintenance dose to 0.75/0.25 g every 6 hours if creatinine clearance 31-50 mL/minute. M Reduce loading dose to 1.35/0.45 g and maintenance dose to 0.675/0.225 g every 8 hours if creatinine clearance 16-30 mL/minute. M
