Indications and dose
**Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at increased risk of fractures**
- **Adult** (By Subcutaneous Injection): (female) 80 micrograms once daily for maximum duration of treatment 18 months.
Cautions
Cardiac disease (monitor for worsening disease-discontinue if severe cardiovascular symptoms occur)
Contraindications
Bone metastases; pre-existing hypercalcaemia; previous radiation therapy to the skeleton; risk factors for osteosarcoma; skeletal malignancies; unexplained raised alkaline phosphatase
Side effects
Common or very common Arrhythmias; arthralgia; asthenia; constipation; diarrhoea; dizziness; gastrointestinal discomfort; headache; hypercalcaemia; hypercalciuria; hypertension; hyperuricaemia; insomnia; malaise; muscle spasms; nausea; nephrolithiasis; pain; palpitations; skin reactions; vomiting Uncommon Postural hypotension
Interactions
**Other interactions (5):**
- No dedicated clinical drug-drug interaction studies have been performed with abaloparatide.
- The interaction potential of abaloparatide is regarded low considering its pharmacokinetic properties.
- There is no data on efficacy of abaloparatide in patients with prior or concomitant bisphosphonate or glucocorticoid treatment.
- Concomitant use of vasoactive medicinal products may predispose to orthostatic hypotension since the blood pressure lowering effect of abaloparatide may be increased, see section 4.4.
- Because abaloparatide has been shown to increase serum calcium, it should be used with caution in patients taking digitalis.
