Clearing FMGE Is Step One, Not the Finish Line

Step 1: Obtain the FMGE Pass Certificate
After results are declared by NBEMS, successful candidates can download their passing certificate from the NBEMS portal. This certificate is the key document that initiates the rest of the process.
Step 2: Apply for Provisional Registration
With the FMGE pass certificate, the foreign medical degree, and supporting documents (passport, eligibility certificate, NMC equivalence), apply for provisional registration with any state medical council. Provisional registration allows you to practice under supervision during your internship but not independently.
The documents typically required include the FMGE pass certificate, primary medical qualification (degree certificate), NMC eligibility or equivalence certificate, passport and visa copies, photographs, and the application fee (varies by state, typically INR 2,000-5,000).
Step 3: Complete Compulsory Rotating Internship
Even if you completed an internship as part of your foreign medical course, you must complete a 12-month compulsory rotating internship at an institution recognised by NMC in India. This internship covers all major clinical departments and is mandatory for permanent registration.
Finding an internship can be challenging. Recognised institutions include government medical colleges, district hospitals, and some private medical colleges. Candidates should apply to institutions early, as slots are limited and demand is high. The stipend during internship varies by state and institution.
Step 4: Obtain Permanent Medical Registration
After completing the 12-month internship, submit the internship completion certificate to the state medical council for permanent registration. Permanent registration authorises you to practise medicine independently in India and makes you eligible for NEET PG.
